Dr. Barry Turner
After graduating in 1972 Barry spent 7 years practising and studying in England. During this time he developed an interest in IV sedation a technique which has helped him treat nervous patients in a caring and more efficient way.
Barry has also made frequent trips to USA, which was the centre of the Universe for dental development, to develop his skills and interests in cosmetic dentistry. He enjoyed spending many hours “learning from the best”. This interest in skills development has been a common thread throughout his professional life, and continues.
Barry’s professional interests include:
- cosmetic/aesthetic solutions to problem teeth
- periodontal problems (gum disease)
- bruxism ( clenching/grinding, often unknown to the patient until they break a tooth or can’t bite on it )
In addition to his work at the Bondi Junction dental practice, Barry is also a volunteer dentist with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, where he is helping improve the oral health of people in regional and rural Australia.
Barry’s Personal Interests :
“I live on a farm which consumes as much time as I want to give. I enjoy snow skiing, aviation and I have a special interest in East Timor, where I played a small part in establishing a volunteer dental program after their independence in 1999. We started with 3 dentists and now boast 7 teams visiting in 2010. We have an orphanage with 37 children and take care of the entire western half of East Timor. Makes you realise how lucky we are in Australia .”
